An Encouraging Word from Marvin

Dear First Baptist Church Family,

I want to begin by thanking you for your prayers for our church during these life-changing times. Our family of faith has always risen to every challenge and I know we will do the same now with the help and guidance of our God.

Our purpose is to “love God and love people…” We never want to lose sight of either of those twin purposes. As such, we will continue to worship each week but from now until at least March 31 our worship will be online only. We are trying to be good citizens as well as good Christians. We are also trying to protect the health of our community while continuing to worship God together.

As of today all FBC activities, with two exceptions to be outlined in a moment, are canceled until March 31. The two exceptions are Celebrate Recovery, which will meet this Wednesday at 6 PM at 441 Clay Street, and our Preschool, which is meeting today. Our Preschool Committee is meeting later today to determine the best course of action for the welfare of our children and families.

On Sunday, March 22 and Sunday, March 29, we will have worship online at 11 AM. We may be able to send additional materials such as children’s Sunday School materials online. If so, we will notify you later this week.

How can you be a part of “loving God and loving people…” at this time? Here are just a few ways:

1) Check on those you know who may be in a high-risk group. A phone call may save a life.

2) Join other FBC family members in reading our daily devotional thoughts. If you don’t receive them, please email Patsy Morales at patsymorales@fbckpt.org to be added to the list.

3) Pray daily for our national, state and local leaders who are making crucial decisions. Pray also for the health care community as they work to find a solution and care for those impacted. Pray that our church will make a difference in lives during these days.

4) Join us online in worship this Sunday at 11 AM. If you can’t join us at that time, “re-runs” will be available on the website so you can join us during the week.

Thank you for all you mean to our Lord and his church. We are grateful for your financial stewardship. Since we will not be meeting in person, we will be sending information on how you can be a good steward through the miracles of modern technology.

As for this moment, let’s remember that the Apostle Paul faced multiple challenges in his life. As he prayed he heard these words from God: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” May our prayer be that God’s power is made perfect in our lives, our congregation, and our world in these moments of weakness.
