An Encouraging Word from Marvin
The month of August has changed significantly in my life. As a child August was the last full month without school. As a person with an August birthday I never knew the joy (or sorrow) of celebrating a birthday with classmates. I remember anticipating Labor Day as the last day before school resumed. Now August is a full month of school for our youngsters. High school and college football begin. Bands practice and extracurricular activities are in full swing. The best thing for me about the change in August is that we get back in the swing of things at church as well. You have been so faithful these first few weeks of August. Thanks for being here!
This Sunday we will “Meet Jesus at the Wall” in order to see just how dangerous a spirit of self-righteousness can become. Sunday evening we will meet with other Christians in our city at St. Docinic’s Catholic Church at 6 P.M. for a time of prayer for our community. These semi-annual services came out of a dreadful experience, the shootings at Mother Emmanuel Church in Charleston a few years ago. We have come together ever since then to pray for this wonderful place in which we live. I hope our church will be well-represented as we pray together. I hope you to see you twice on Sunday!
