An Encouraging Word from Marvin
We currently have some important positions open on our staff. We are seeking a new Director for our Preschool as we transition to a full-time program on August 6. For more than a year two different committees have worked faithfully and diligently to get us ready to expand our Preschool to enable it to grow and serve those families who could not be a part of it in its previous configuration. We need someone who is completely and totally invested in the future of our program to lead us in this pivotal time. I hope you will join me in praying for our search process this week. Interviews are taking place with capable candidates. Pray that we will find just the right person who has the vision and desire to reach many more families for our Preschool.
We are also seeking a Contemporary Worship Leader. Jessica Hatfield went above and beyond the call of duty in her 11.5 years with us. She worked far more than her job description required. Jessica gave us full-time work through a part-time salary. Because of the magnitude of her work and the opportunities before us to reach a new generation, our Search Committee is seeking a full-time candidate for this position as we try to reach more young people and young families for our church. This is a crucial time for us to “get younger” when it is incredibly challenging for traditional churches to do that. This person would not only lead the Contemporary service, he or she will also oversee all the audio-video-lighting and technical issues for all our services. In addition, this person will lead our Youth Praise Band and possibly assist us in leading in some alternative worship services that can be started in the future. We are able to do this within our current personnel budget. Staff transitions in churches such as ours continue to face new realities. Very few churches employ Ministers of Education anymore. We are dividing those responsibilities among existing staff. Mark Halvorsen and I are working on plans for Adult Sunday School for the fall. Our entire staff is taking a very deliberate and intentional approach to outreach. I get a weekly outreach report from each of our staff members as we try to be accountable in our outreach efforts. I believe our future staffing models will assist us as we do our best to reach a new generation. If you have questions, please let our deacon chair, Rob Emery, or me know. We will be keeping you apprised of our progress and covet your prayers for the Search Committee.
This week we have a couple of outstanding opportunities to do outreach in our community. On Saturday and Monday at 6:30 PM our drama team will be presenting “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown.” I hope you will be here and will bring someone with you. On Sunday we will rent out the Kingsport Aquatic Center from 6:30-8:30 PM. Bring someone with you for a great night of fellowship. On Sunday we will consider this thought: “What Should I Worry About?” I hope to see you in your place!
