An Encouraging Word from Marvin
If you were in worship on Sunday you know that Jessica Hatfield has announced her desire to complete her service as our Music Associate at the end of June. I don’t have the words to describe all that Jessica means to our church. She is a gifted musician but she is much more than that. She possesses a deep humility that few with her talent know. She loves God with all her heart, soul, mind and strength, and with her talent as well. She has made our 8:40 AM service a time of spiritual growth for all who have ever entered the Sanctuary during that hour. She has given leadership to a praise choir, a praise band and numerous ensembles and soloists. Quite simply, Jessica has been a gift of God to us. Her musical gifts will continue to bless us as she is able to share them with us, but her leadership will conclude in June. We will have an opportunity to formally thank her later, but for now, please express your thanks to Jessica for all she means to our church and our Lord.
Rob Emery, our Deacon chair, will begin the process of moving forward in the search for a person to fill Jessica’s roles. Be in prayer for that process as we move forward in the weeks to come.
This Sunday I will begin a series of sermons on an experience Penny and I shared last summer at the Waffle House in Athens, Tennessee. The series is entitled, “Lessons from the Waffle House.” When I wrote the title I never imagined the tragedy at a Waffle House in Tennessee this week. Join us on Sunday as I try to help us understand what it is like to find grace in an unusual place on a Saturday night.
I look forward to seeing you on Sunday!
